Past Research Physiological and ultrastructural investigations into the taxonomy of thermophilic acidophilic cyanidium spp.
Effects of Nitrogen Source on iron limitation in marine phytoplankton
Bio-optical modelling of phytoplankton primary productivity:
Photoacclimation-modelling changes in the Chl.a:C ratio, consequences for current methods of predicting oceanic primary production, and comparison of photoacclimation models
Photoinhibition-Photodamage model, including use of fluorescence as a probe for photosynthetic competence
Phytoplankton pigments- Pigment cycling and dynamic changes in pigment content during photoacclimation and photoinhibition.
Effects of photosystem plasticity on phytoplankton primary production. Use of pigments as indicators of ecosystem health.

Current Research

Development of a suite of indicators of the condition of coastal wetlands that are based on measurements of plant pigments. These will be correlated with the optical properties of single leaves and with whole canopies in order to develop algorithms that be used to interpret remotely sensed data and to derive indices of wetland plant productivity, stress, and change at the landscape-scale
